Top 10 Latin Albums, Fall/Winter 2011 #6 Lucero
Lucero gets back to her romantic roots with this collection of salsa-laced ranchera. Sweeping strings and swooning horns swell under love-laden lyrics delivered with the kind of theatrical presence that helped this singer-actress make her name. Like any pop queen worth her crown, though, she packs a few surprises into her radio-friendly ballads: "A Puro Dolor" samples Pachelbel's Canon, "Potpourri" covers Celia Cruz's "La Vida Es un Carnival" and "A Dios la Pido" works a slow, sensual cumbia groove. And the diva herself? She growls, croons and coos with heart-thumping drama.
